SAAWA is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonreligious, nonsectarian organization dedicated to education and leadership globally since 1985. Founded in Corning, New York, its philosophy is shared in the Tri-State area and beyond. In the last 10 years funds have been raised locally to assist twentyone students nationally and internationally towards scholarships for higher education in America. Selection of scholarship recipients is based on high academic achievements and leadership qualifications.
SAAWA's Books Around the World program sends used American books to good educational purposes in seven other nations of the world. In addition, members individually enrich their communities with their own educational, cultural, and religious heritage. With common ethnic cultures from the geographic subcontinent of India, today they come from seven nationalities of the USA. Their children are born here and are Americans. Some of the multicultural, multinational, multireligious and multilegal influences run at cross purposes and cause serious conflicts. SAAWA knows that education is the answer, and therefore makes great efforts at informing and educating globally without influence of race, religion or national origin. SAAWA members are multilingual and often assist with translation and interpretation of South Asian languages.
In addition, each year SAAWA gives recognition to one person in the community whose achievements are outstanding in the field of Law. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, SAAWA will honor an outstanding person whose contribution to Law is recognized. SAAWA members believe that today's customs become tommorrow's laws and these laws are made by men and women and are changed by men and women for the betterment of society.
