Kendrick Lamar wins Pulitzer Prize for 'Damn'

Kendrick Lamar's critically acclaimed album "Damn" has just won one of the biggest honors ever: a Pulitzer Prize.

The disc is the first nonclassical or jazz album ever to win the prestigious honor.

The news was announced Monday afternoon at New York City's Columbia University. The highly coveted Pulitzer Prizes celebrate the best in journalism, literature and musical composition.

I just read some of Lamar's lyrics - because I'm not familiar with him and I was hoping it would be some inspiring music from a fellow Black American. Instead, it's the same ole garbage that is fueling racism in this country and victimhood. "Music" that can't be listened to by everyone. Lyrics so foul that it has to have parental disgression. Then our kids listen to this garbage, get full of rage and continue the race wars. This is Pulitzer-Prize winning music these days? No wonder things are so screwed up today. Here's one of the clean lyrics I could find ""And we hate the popo, wanna kill us in the street fo' sho'." <---- fuel the hate. That helps.

About 20-50 black men are wrongfully shot by police a year. In a nation of 370m.

You're about 1000 times more likely to get hit by lightning. You're about 10,000 times more likely to die in a car accident.

You're about 100,000 times more likely to get shot by someone in your hood than by a cop.

The obsession over the police seems to be the latest projection of an excuse for the embarassing lack of accomplishment of this segment of the population.

I had no idea they gave Pulitzers for anything not literary. Congrats!

Interesting to say the least. He is talented, but the Pulitzer for musical composition is a stretch. Lyrical composition may be closer to the mark.

Music is changing the world for the better. Our kids don't see color like many of us older people that were raised in a racial environment. Despite all the negativity that is publicized, I see hope for our youth.
