Stephen Colbert: Trump lawyer's sole job is to 'pay off mistresses'

Stephen Colbert poured himself a celebratory glass of wine on Monday as he reveled in the latest scandal to hit President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.

It was revealed in court Monday that Cohen's unnamed third client was Fox News host Sean Hannity.

“This is crazy,” Colbert said. “Cohen only has two other clients, and all he does for them is pay off mistresses, which raises the obvious question: Who did Sean Hannity have sex with?

“Now, we don't know, and I can't prove this, but I think it's that football he's always holding it. Yeah, every commercial break, he's got his hands all over it,” he added.

Cohen -- who arranged a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election -- worked for three clients between 2017 and 2018: Donald Trump, former Republican National Committee Deputy Finance Chair Elliot Broidy and Hannity, Cohen’s legal team alleged Monday.

Broidy resigned from his post at the RNC on Friday after acknowledging making a $1.6 million payment to a model he impregnated.

It’s not yet clear which services Cohen may have provided Hannity, but Colbert says “it doesn't even matter.”

“What does matter is that Sean Hannity is out there every night defending Trump and Michael Cohen,” Colbert said Monday, before taking a seat and pouring himself a glass of wine. “How did Fox News let him on the air with this massive conflict of interest? Did he not tell them? Or did he tell them and they just ignored it?

“I'm going to go with the first one, because I know Sean Hannity, and delivering factual information is not his strong suit,” he joked.

Hannity addressed the allegations at the end of his show on Monday night.

"Let me set the record straight. Here's the truth. Michael Cohen never represented me in any legal manner. I never retained his services. I never received an invoice. I never paid Michael Cohen for legal fees,” Hannity said. “I did have occasional brief conversations with Michael Cohen -- he is a great attorney -- about legal questions I had.

"My questions exclusively focused on real estate," he added.

The fun part of this is that Hannity's statement today says he used Cohen on real estate and some "other stuff". He just keeps digging himself in deeper.

Hmm, so now political news is equivalent to writing articles about a comedian,, the real joke is ABC pretending to be a news site. Can't see Walter Conkrite stooping that low.

So...if Cohen isn't Hannity's attorney, is he just the go between guy that gives information from Trump to Hannity? The guy that passes the leaks and the plans of action/defense? I would think that would be problematic for a "journalist" and I use that term loosely when referring to Hannity. I would think this would be a huge blow to Fox's credibility? Though I must say Fox seems pretty bulletproof when it comes to defending their credibility. Fox seems able to adroitly defend against nuclear warheads when it comes to their credibility. Fox's cult following doesn't appear interested in facts.

Courtrooms are usually pretty boring places. Lawyers rarely ask a question without just about everybody knowing what the answer will be. An 'audible gasp', like the Hannity revelation created, just doesn't happen outside of Perry Mason reruns. A scriptwriter could never get away with writing this as fiction.

When 5 former US Presidents both Dem and Rep come out together warning the US public about this Current President you know its really bad.. I'm sure all of them have been briefed on Trump and his Crime Family working with Russians.

Why are the networks allowing a woman beater former donalds kisser bigot Cory Lewandowski air time? All he can contribute are excuses to help liar Hannity & the thug fixer porn lawyer are in his circle of treating women like meat.

  • My two cents

So is Hannity going on a planned vacation according to Fox?

"My questions exclusively focused on real estate." Translation: "I bought my mistress a house."

We are no where near the end of Dotard Donny’s train wreck but anyone with half a brain has to ask, “Why would a person with so many skeletons in his closet clammer to stand on the highest pedestal in the world?” 1) definately a moron; 2) sickly conceited 3) mentally ill or 4) disparetely greedy to use the office to his advantage and to heck with the damage i will cause my family. A total monster any way you slice it!

  • Nat_Turner

So you go to a mistress fixer for real estate problems and not to fix a mistress problem? I'm not buying it Sean, and I bet your wife isn't either.

  • Pologize3

Wasn't it Hannity who called Obama an "elitist" for ordering dijon mustard on his burger?

  • jimrussell

Yes Sean Hannity is an unethical Republican Trumpster shill and despicable lying propagandist and now national bad joke.

  • Eye Candy

Hannity got what he deserves. IMO

  • LE

Let's see ... Trump does something that his wife might not like, so Cohen uses his own money to pay off the porn star. Hannity gets legal advice from Cohen, then does massive "Trump is good" shouting on Fox program. Trump keeps giving Hannity material for his program.

So, neither Trump nor Hannity pays money to Cohen for services rendered. Just what is Cohen getting out of these deals?

Oh, wait, there's that other guy involved; maybe he's the one funneling cash to Cohen on behalf of Trump; who is beholden to Hannity for good "press" coverage; Hannity is somehow is deserving of client/attorney privilege from an attorney who does not represent him; Cohen provides services to all three and has enough money left over to pay off models and porn stars. There, that's about right.

And again, I'll say it... Hannity should not and does not want to associate himself with anything "real estate" with Donald Trump.

Here are just a FEW things. Trump and Sotheby's International are the ones who lined up the Russian Mafia rentals in Trump Tower, as well as the current Russians living there. Sotheby's was instrumental in the sale of Trump's Palm Beach mansion in 2008, in the midst of the real estate crisis in this country, to Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev. Rybolovlev paid over twice what Trump paid for the property but bought it under an LLC (something that's a Trump lawyer specialty), only to re-sell it in 2016 (coincidence?) after NEVER HAVING VISITED his investment. Oh, and the resale was less than what Trump paid in 2004 for the property (alleged "money laundering"?).

Something's rotten in Denmark and Trump's real estate dealings are involved--at the very least, from using his own Foundation money to pay rent on one of his properties.

Trump needs to consult his lawyers...
...if he can find anyone who wants to work with him.

Colbert huh? Who would have thought?

the gop censors do not allow liberal thinking on these pages but truth will prevail on other outlets that don't get paid off to censor truth.keep up the bad work hypocrites.

  • David

It's a syllogistic conclusion, but yea in these times we can do that, heck Trump draws conclusions out of thin air. I suspect Mrs. Hannity was asking a lot of questions last night herself. Couldn't happen to nicer guy.

  • Fatesrider

So, if I get this right, Trump had Cohen pay off a mistress Trump fooled around with behind Melina's back around the time his youngest was born. That RNC chief had Cohen pay off a gal he impregnated (great moral values there, GOP. Your constituents must be very proud!).

And Hannity says he only talked real estate, although Cohen claims he was a client.

But because Cohen was the "mistress fixer" and only had 3 clients in 3 years, and Hannity admitted talking to him about real estate, now we know that Cohen paid off a mistress of Hannity's with a new house.

And anything ELSE they discussed is subject to legal scrutiny since Hannity denies ever retaining Cohen, and it's not the LAWYER who controls privileged information. It's the CLIENT. Cohen can't claim attorney/client privilege when the supposed client says that relationship never existed.

Hannity should have kept his big mouth shut. I sincerely hope some prison time is in his future.
